Providing young people and adults the opportunity to find their voice in a safe, supportive, and enriching environment.
As a vocal coach in a small town, I am training my students to have an appreciation for all styles of music while also teaching basic music reading skills. I feel a sense of responsibility to teach singers of all levels, not just the professional singers in the community, and to provide a space for those who may not have had a chance to learn singing skills at a younger age for any number of reasons. My goal is to create a connection with those I teach so they feel supported and therefore confident to share their voice with the world around them.
Music, specifically singing, has been a major part of my life. In fact, I cannot think of a time when music has not been included in my daily routine. From a young age, I have sung, acted, and danced on stages across the United States and Europe. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Musical Theatre with a concentration in Voice, have been in more than 50 stage productions and have toured with theatre companies and Jazz vocal ensembles. There is nothing in this world that makes me happier or my light shine brighter than singing.
I want to share that passion with all of my students.
When I moved to Australia, I did not expect to be here more than a year, but shortly after my arrival, unsurprisingly, music made its way into my life in unexpected ways. I listened to my heart, made the choice to stay in Oz, and moved to Dubbo, NSW. Since moving here in 2018, I have been a part of an ever-growing music, theatre, and arts community and have been welcomed by professional musicians and amateur performers alike into this space. I am excited to bring my knowledge and unique experience of Musical Theatre and music performance here
Professional singers, especially those who perform 8 shows a week and touring musicians will have a vocal coach as part of their team. Why? Because even professionals need guidance and support.
Let me ask you these questions:
They all had vocal coaches making sure they were producing sound in a healthy way and their technique stayed on point.
So if these professionals use a Vocal Coach, why shouldn’t you?
There is a common misconception that you should take lessons only if you cannot sing. That is NOT the truth. Not even close.
Your voice is an ever-changing instrument. Unlike a piano, we can’t just hire someone to come and adjust our strings if we fall out of tune. You need to know how to tune and correct your own instrument and ensure that it is working in peak condition in order to sustain a healthy voice.
By working with a Vocal Coach, you will learn how your instrument works, how to maintain it, and more importantly, how to create the sound you want in a safe way.
You’re right! There are great online vocal coaches with fantastic courses and exercises. But what they aren’t able to give you is that one-on-one personal approach and feedback on how you are completing those exercises. Nor can they provide you with a tailored lesson plan that suits your voice as it’s growing.
Attending in-person lessons ensures that you are getting real-time corrections on technique and placement which means you won’t be completing those exercises incorrectly and injuring yourself in the process.
The first few lessons, regardless of experience level, will revolve around proper breathing techniques to ensure your core is properly engaged and providing the support your voice needs to make sound. We will explore vowel sounds, mouth shape, and vocal placement. As you progress, we will apply these techniques in a practical way as we build your musical repertoire.
